BAMBOOBASIC AND WINDOWS 11 SMART APP CONTROL
============================================

WHAT IS THIS?
-------------
Windows 11 has a security feature called "Smart App Control". When it is
switched ON, Windows only lets a program run if it has a paid digital
signature or Microsoft already recognises it.

BambooBasic is an independent hobby project and does not have a paid
signature, so on some PCs Windows may block it. This does NOT mean
BambooBasic is harmful. Windows simply doesn't recognise it yet.

Most people are not affected. Smart App Control is usually only switched on
for PCs that came with Windows 11 or had a fresh install of it. PCs
upgraded from Windows 10 normally have it switched off.

SIGNS THAT YOU ARE AFFECTED
---------------------------
  - A message such as "Smart App Control blocked an app that may be unsafe"
or "Part of this app has been blocked".
  - BambooBasic does not open at all when you double-click it.
  - BambooBasic opens, but parts of it (for example the AI assistant in the
    IDE) do not work.

Unlike some Windows warnings, Smart App Control has no "Run anyway" button.
You can't allow just one program.

CHECKING WHETHER SMART APP CONTROL IS ON
----------------------------------------
  1. Open Settings (press the Windows key + I).
  2. Go to Privacy & security > Windows Security.
  3. Click "App & browser control".
  4. Click "Smart App Control settings".

It will show On, Evaluation or Off. If it says Off, Smart App Control is
not the cause of your problem.

HOW TO TURN IT OFF
------------------
Follow steps 1-4 above, then choose "Off". Close BambooBasic if it is open,
then start it again. A restart of the PC is not normally needed.

GOOD TO KNOW
------------
  - You can switch Smart App Control back on at any time from the same
screen, as often as you like.
  - With Smart App Control off, your PC is still protected by Windows
    Defender antivirus and SmartScreen.
  - Whether to turn it off is your decision. If you are not comfortable
doing so, BambooBasic may not run on that PC.
